Common questions

Is Graboard on the Mac App Store?

Yes. Graboard ships through the Mac App Store as a sandboxed app. You install it like any other app, updates come through the App Store, subscriptions go through your Apple ID, and Apple Family Sharing is supported.

What is the difference between Pro and Family?

Pro is for one person. You get cloud sync between up to 2 of your own Macs, plus AI credits, shareable links, and the rest of the cloud toolkit.

Family is the same Pro feature set for up to 6 Apple IDs in your Apple family group, each with their own private clipboard. It also adds optional shared vaults, so a chosen set of items can sync between family members who opt in.

How does cross-Mac sync work? Is it secure?

On first sign-in you set a passphrase. Graboard uses it to derive an encryption key that never leaves your Mac. Each clipboard item is encrypted on the device, sent through a relay, and decrypted on your other Macs. The relay only ever sees ciphertext, which means even Graboard cannot read your clipboard.

You can register up to 2 Macs on Pro (per member on Family). Devices are listed in Settings so you can revoke any of them at any time.

Are cloud features really opt-in?

Yes. Sync, backup, sharing, and AI all stay off until you switch them on for that specific device. Pro and Family work fully locally if you never enable a single cloud feature. The free app never connects to any Graboard server.

Do family members see each other’s clipboards?

No, not unless you both opt in. Every family member has their own private clipboard, their own passphrase, and their own encryption key. The only way an item appears on another member’s Mac is through a shared vault: you create the vault, invite specific members, and explicitly put items into it. Items outside that vault stay private.

What are AI credits? What happens if I run out?

Credits cover the cost of AI requests (rewriting text, describing images, premium OCR, smart tagging, generating share links). Each Pro and Family member gets 500 credits per calendar month. Different actions use different amounts: roughly 1 credit for a text action, 2 for premium OCR, 5 for an image action.

If you run out, AI actions pause until your next monthly refill or until you top up. Top-ups start at $5 for 500 credits and never expire. The rest of Graboard keeps working normally either way.

Can I cancel? What happens to my data?

Cancel any time from your Apple ID subscription settings. You keep Pro or Family for the rest of the billing period, then drop back to Free.

Your local clipboard history is unaffected; it lives on your Mac and stays there forever. Any cloud-only state (encrypted sync, backups, share links you created) is retained read-only for 30 days in case you resubscribe, then permanently deleted.
